BRIEF
This project was undertaken in 2 stages – upstairs and downstairs.
Upstairs
Extend the family home to introduce an open dining space as well as somewhere to relax and read a book. The clients wanted this room to have a feel more like a sunny conservatory so the Summer Room was created.
Achievement
Oversized windows and louvres were introduced on 3 sides to capture the view of the established garden and the horse paddocks. Custom joinery for window seating with cushions for comfort. This space is now a delightful spot to view the property and share a meal with family and friends.
Downstairs
After water damage to the multi-purpose games room it was time to make the space more inviting. It was dark and felt cold. Near the top of the list was the creation of a cellar in an existing concrete block storeroom, plus somewhere to display trophies and achievements. An existing but unused open outdoor space – only visited by spiders at this point – was demanding to be reborn. A guest bedroom and bathroom needed an adjoining kitchenette to make the space more functional.
Landscaping needed to invite guests to wander from the new facilities down to the pool. As well as introducing a cabana to escape the heat and wind during summer.
Achievement
We enclosed the unused outdoor space to create a French style garden room. We recycled the clients’ French doors and moved these to the outside entry. We manufactured oversized cavity style sliding doors to separate the games room from the garden room. We introduced a dado rail with V-Groove cladding to create interest using two tones of soft greens to bring the outside in. New flooring was installed throughout.
The design for the cellar included custom joinery on 3 walls for display and storage as well as wine fridges and a tasting area. The introduction of a glass barn door to create interest and a visual display of the cellar. A tall table and comfortable bar stools created the social area.
The space under the stairs was unused and dark so we introduced custom joinery with glass display cabinets and LED lighting – once again creating interest and showcasing the clients’ sporting achievements and passions.
The kitchenette needed to house appliances, a dishwasher and a bar, including space for beer taps. Storage in this space was introduced and hidden behind brass mesh cabinet doors.
We introduced vegan leather lounges to be practical for a large crowd. A fun colourful rug and cushions and throws to complete the look.
The outdoor space was transfromed into a garden room by introducing oversized grey and white diamond laid porcelain tiles. We kept all the colours light and earthy to create that garden room feel. We also introduced a gas fireplace with sandstone cladding. The ceiling we clad in V groove to keep the theme from the games room continuous to this space. Comfortable lounges were custom made with bright playful cushions. This space is now enjoyed by family and friends.
Outside we introduced oversized rectangle bluestone pavers and pebbles and off set the pavers to create an interesting path and visual to the pool.
The cabana was raised to give a better view of the pool and the steps also create extra seating. We introduced louvres to the 3 enclosed sides so sun and the breeze can be directed to suit the time of day. This now creates a great space to escape the harsh summer sun and to provides a cool area to relax and watch playtime in the pool.
